Chrysler Ireland has announced it is to continue to sponsor the Donadea Trophy, the only Open Seniors Mixed Scotch Foursome golf tournament in Ireland. The event is scheduled to take place again July 1st. 2014 at the Knockanally Golf Club in Donadea, Co. Kildare and will coincide with the opening of the new, all-brand dealership located adjacent the FIAT Group headquarters on the Naas Road.
This unique tournament is limited to teams of eight golfers from the Leinster region this year. Chrysler Ireland will have its full range of luxury vehicles on display at the event, not only to commemorate the opening of the new flagship dealership but also to showcase the Yspilon, Delta, Grand Voyager and 300C against a salubrious and breath-taking backdrop.
Knockanally Golf Club was designed by the land’s owner, Noel Lyons, in 1983 on the grounds of what used to be the Coates estate, established by Matthew “Miner” Coates in 1777. In 2010 the golf course became the remit of the club members who immediately began planning this unique event to raise the Knockanally’s profile and standing within the golfing community.
The distinctive clubhouse dates back to 1843 and was described in Kevin Markham’s bestselling book “Hooked: An Amateur’s Guide to the Golf Courses of Ireland” (2011) as “one of the most entertaining clubhouses you’ll find…it would be worth coming for that alone”. He also described the course itself as “a golf society’s heaven”.
Knockanally Golf Club launched The Donadea Trophy during their Easter Golf Festival in 2012. The competition format is Mixed Seniors (Over 50s) Scotch Foursomes. Entry is open to clubs in Leinster in teams of 8. Teams will compete on the day for the Trophy.
“We’re very excited about this competition” explains Competition Director Dominic Holmes. “As far as we can ascertain, this is the only regional Open Seniors Mixed Foursomes competition, and we are delighted to have the support of the GUI and ILGU in organising and running the event”. Plans are already underway to make The Donadea Trophy a national competition in 2015.
The Donadea Trophy, in association with Chrysler, Agnelli Motor Park
“We are also really fortunate to have the support of Chrysler at Agnelli Motor Park, Dublin for The Donadea Trophy. They have been more than helpful and supportive of the venture from the initial discussions and we look forward to working with them in the lead up to the event.”
With the competition date set for Tuesday 1st. July 2014, it is likely that spaces on the Open Competitions between now and the Trophy will be well attended, as competitors endeavour to gain vital local knowledge prior to the main event.
